Spring Classic - Help Needed!

The Request:

I need a volunteer to be a SAG driver during the Spring Classic on May 9.

The Story:

One of the many things that makes the Spring Classic a sensational supported ride is the on-road assistance (SAG) that we provide. Our SAG drivers cruise an assigned area and provide assistance and encouragement to the riders that they encounter. This “assistance” consists of flat repairs, minor mechanical adjustments, or, if something more extensive is required, transportation of the rider(s) and bike(s) to the Church rest stop where John Pope works his magic to get them back on the road.

We customarily use four drivers. This allows us to thoroughly support the extensive geographic area that is covered by our routes. As of now, three drivers have volunteered; we therefore need one more. The job requires the driver to:

  • Attend an orientation on Friday, May 8 at about 6 pm.
  • Show up at about 7:30 am on the day of the event.
  • Provide a vehicle that can transport two bikes and their riders.
  • Cruise their assigned area until it is evident that no more riders are present. This is typically around 3:00 pm.

You do not have to be a proficient bicycle mechanic to be a SAG driver. The club reimburses the drivers for the fuel their vehicle uses while they cruise their area.

I ask you to seriously consider volunteering for this job. It’s a great opportunity to be an ambassador for the club. Let me know if you are interested.
