The Bridge Sweep Success!
What a fantastic turnout for this event on such a beautiful day. Thanks to all thirty-one hard-working club members who came out with their tools and fun-loving attitudes. It was a tough go this time as it had been a while since the last bridge sweep. Lots of weeds growing out of the sand/gravel which took some convincing to remove. Should be a breeze on our next bridge sweep in September, and I’m not talking about the wind factor 😊
This is not just cosmetics, but a safety issue, especially in a potential passing situation. We’ve all dodged the blackberries that rapidly grow at either end of the bridge span or careened around a pile of debris. The club has been taking care of the bridge walkway for up to 30 years without any recognition. This year with help from Ray Desy and Steve Jahn we have partnered with WSDOT to have an Adopt-a-Highway sign placed stating the Skagit Bicycle Club keeps this area clean. Shout out to Moka Joe for donating the excellent coffee which helped keep everyone going.
Hope to see many of you at the next bridge sweep event in September.
