Hey, Happy April Fools Day (well, tomorrow),
We saw some daffodils last Tuesday, so been there done that. It’s still too early for tulips so let's leave the flats for a while.
Rather, let’s get back to the previously scheduled programing, and that being: Getting a bike’s eye view of some more of the Skagit Spring Classic routes.
If you are keeping track, we’ve ridden the 25 mile route then added on the 45 mile section. Now comes a portion of the 65 and 100 mile routes.
The official Spring Classic 65 & 100 mile routes go north on Chuckanut Drive to Bellingham.
Some folks would rather not ride north bound on Chuckanut because the road is narrow and there are no shoulders. The cliff face is near and unforgiving. Cars come up from the back at who knows what speed. I feel it’s very important we DO NOT ride abreast. If you find it difficult to pedal a straight line and maintain focus, please consider the counterclockwise route. Hi-vis garments, lights and mirrors are all good ideas. Bike helmets are required of course, on all SBC rides.
Let’s divide and conquer. We have two routes this week. Pick the one that suits you best. Both routes travel the same roads, one goes clockwise, the other counterclockwise.
Some of us will be riding clockwise, and some of us will choose to ride counterclockwise. Where we’ll meet is anybody’s guess, but I suspect somewhere near Lake Samish then we can all ride back together. For the counterclockwise riders, this will result in an out-and-back ride.
Food, for those who are interested can be had at TerraMar Brewsitllery 5712 Gilkey Ave, Bow, WA 98232.
Here is the clockwise route, northbound on Chuckanut: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/49891002
Here is counterclockwise route, out to Lake Samish and back same way. Where you turn around will be totally up to you: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/50158419

Take a moment to study the maps and absorb the distances and elevations. Both of these rides are more strenuous than our typical social rides. For tomorrow we’re looking at 33 miles and 1700 feet.
