The weather looks good, so let's go ride and do lunch on San Juan Island! We are taking the ferry that leaves at 9:00 am from Anacortes to Friday Harbor on Friday, Sept. 18, 2026. Be in line with your ticket by 8:40 am. (Parking tip - I like to use the private lot on the left just as you enter the road to the ferry. Look for the pay/envelope box on the bldg and have $8.00 cash ready. There are also online options available, but cash might be quicker). I plan to ride the approx 10 miles to Roche Harbor for lunch at the Lime Kiln Cafe. Social pace of 12 to 15 mph with stops to regroup. There will be hills!
There are several riding options available afterwards. Riding around the west side to Lime Kiln State Park is very scenic but quite hilly and takes time. You can also just ride back to Friday Harbor and do loops around False Bay or Pear Point depending on how much time is left. I may just stay at Roche Harbor and explore the Sculpture Park and/or the Mausoleum in the woods there before heading back to Friday Harbor hopefully in time for an ice cream cone. I will include some map options with the rider alert. The return ferry leaves at 3:50 pm. I will have a paper signup sheet and maps at start if unable to sign up online.
