Bicycle Touring

Bike tour Sardinia Italy
Author Last Post

Dear Friends,

As we approach the end of the year I am sure that most, if not all of you, have investigated cycling tours or other adventures for the coming year and have already scheduled out all of your time. I know that this message comes to you late in the usual planning process but just in case you have left a little free time in 2023 I wanted to let you know of an amazing tour that we are trying populate so as to allow it to happen.

The tour is through HeartCycle Bicycle Club and is to the island of Sardinia in Italy.

If you have been to Italy and loved the quiet, old world feel and culture of the rural areas, then Sardinia has the same feeling for most of the entire island. The difference may be that on Sardinia it seems like the clock has been turned back 20 or so years in the past, more of an older, quieter feel. I did this exact same tour in 2018 and loved it so much that I want to go back and do it again, as do two others who were on that same tour. I am registered for the tour but we only have 8 other’s registered and need a few more to allow it to operate at the minimum number of 12. We also already have too many people wanting single rooms than we will not be able to accommodate.

The tour is operated by a local Sardinia bicycle tour company that HeartCycle contracts with to lead the tour. These guys were fantastic and treated us like family. Here is a link to the HeartCycle Home Page. https://www.heartcycle.org/  It only costs $25 annually to become a member of the HeartCycle Bicycle Club for a single individual. The cost of the tour is amazingly inexpensive for the length and inclusion of meals and other activities that it provides.

Please do NOT be put off by what seems like will be a dreadful amount of climbing for many of the days. This will not be a problem for any of you as it wasn’t unsurmountable by any of the people on my previous tour. The areas that you get to ride through distract and absorb your thoughts enough that the miles just fly by without concern to the vertical. Really.

If you have ever had a desire to enjoy a REAL Italian cultural experience, including the food, on a relatively shoe string budget, this is it.

I apologize if I have intruded or wasted your time with this email. If you have any interest and have more questions of want to see any of my 2000 photos of the previous trip, please don’t hesitate to contact me. This tour will either gain a few more participants or be cancelled in two weeks’ time so please don’t hesitate and do sign up. If you need any more enticement, ha ha, I need to gain a roommate for the tour and I do have references. Initially I had desired a single room but if it means going or not going, I would love to have a roommate. And you all know what that means at the heart of things. Please pass this on to anyone you may think might be interested. Thank you!

Happy Holidays to you, be well and safe travels,

Dave Olausen
