Bicycle Touring

Olympic Discovery Trail
Author Last Post
The very hard working people on the Peninsula have finished clearing out the tunnels and the ODT is now rideable along the north shore of Lake Crescent.  It's not all paved, so medium or better width tires are best--a proper touring setup should have no problem.  This is a major safety improvement as we can now easily skip the narrow, with heavy traffic, highway 101 south of the lake. Check out their website at olympicdiscoverytrail.org. Be sure to pay attention to the warning about the end of Hwy 20 from Pt. Townsend to Blyn.  I've ridden it both ways twice and it's no fun--make sure you have a good mirror and hope they get the trail cut thru bypassing that road soon.  Maybe even help out... Hope to get out there soon.
Camping: the hiker/biker spots at Sequim Bay St. Pk are rough but usable and the picnic pavilion across the paved trail has electricity for recharging electronics where you can watch them!  The KOA RV park 5 miles east of Pt.Angeles on 101 is a beauty--good tent spaces, hot tub!, pool, game room, store, etc.  Highly recommended.  whit
